Meiringen & the Haslital Getting here

Getting here

Getting to Meiringen

Meiringen is easier to reach than its mountain setting suggests — a direct rail line over the Brünig, a scenic drive along the Brienzersee, and airports within two to three hours by train.

By train

Meiringen sits on the Zentralbahn line and is reached hourly. From Interlaken Ost it is roughly 30–40 minutes; from Luzern about an hour and a quarter on the scenic Luzern–Interlaken line over the Brünig pass; from Bern around 90 minutes via Interlaken Ost; and from Zürich about two hours via Luzern.

The station is a short walk from the flat. Check exact times on the SBB app or sbb.ch — Swiss trains connect tightly, so a single change is usually all it takes.

By car

From Interlaken, follow the A8 along the Brienzersee to Brienz and on to Meiringen — about 30 minutes of lakeside driving. From Luzern, the Brünig pass road brings you over in roughly an hour. The flat has a private parking space with an EV charger.

By air

Zürich (ZRH) is the most convenient airport — about two hours on by train. Basel (BSL) is roughly two and a half hours, and Geneva (GVA) about three; all connect to Meiringen by rail without needing a car.

Getting around once you're here

The village itself is walkable. PostBus lines and the Meiringen–Hasliberg gondola open up the mountain and the valley, and in summer buses climb to the Grosse Scheidegg. A car helps for the high passes and spur-of-the-moment trips, but it is not essential.

Good to know

Do I need a car in Meiringen?

No — the train reaches the village and buses and the gondola cover the valley. A car is handy for the high passes and unplanned day trips, but many guests manage happily without one.

Which airport is best for Meiringen?

Zürich Airport is the most convenient, about two hours away by direct rail connections. Basel and Geneva are also workable at roughly two and a half to three hours.
